UV Index
Also known as ultraviolet
The UV index is the standard scale for the strength of the sun's ultraviolet radiation at the ground, a single unitless number.
What it is
What is the UV index?
The UV index is the standard scale for the strength of the sun's ultraviolet radiation at the ground, a single unitless number. On this platform it is a weather-station reading, from the Davis stations that carry a UV sensor.
Among the Davis models in the sensor catalog, the UV index is reported by the Vantage Pro2 (whose solar and UV sensors are optional) and by two legacy EnviroMonitor consoles: the GroWeather, an agricultural station that also reads solar radiation, soil, and leaf sensors, and the HealthEnviroMonitor, a heat-stress and comfort station. The compact Vantage Vue has no solar or UV sensor, and the other legacy consoles (the Weather Wizard, Weather Monitor, Perception, and EnergyMonitor) do not report UV.
How it is measured
How UV Index Is Measured
A Davis station connects to a Thiamis gateway over RS-232. On connection the driver asks the station for its model, then polls it for live readings, so a station reports the UV index only when it is a model that carries the sensor and the sensor is fitted.
An instrument on Thiamis1
A third-party instrument connected to a Thiamis gateway, reporting into the same Environet account.
