Fluid & Fuel Quality

Parker icountPD inline/online laser particle detector for hydraulic, lube-oil, and fuel systems; laser-diode optical particle counting reports fluid cleanliness as ISO 4406 codes (also NAS 1638 / AS4059) across four size channels >4/>6/>14/>30 µm(c), to ±1 ISO code, over RS-232.

ModelDescriptionMeasures & specs
icountPDPermanently mounted online laser-diode particle detector for hydraulic and lube/fuel circuits. It reports ISO 4406 (and NAS 1638 / AS4059) cleanliness codes at >4/>6/>14/>30 µm(c) to ±1 ISO code. RS-232 serial plus 4–20 mA, 0–5 V, and CAN-bus (J1939) outputs; inline or remote-mount, with an optional moisture/temperature sensor on non-fuel versions.

Questions

Parker icountPD FAQ

How does the Parker icountPD report fluid cleanliness?

It uses laser-diode optical detection of the particles in a live oil or fuel sample and expresses the result as ISO 4406 cleanliness codes, one code per size channel at >4, >6, >14, and >30 µm(c), with a stated performance of ±1 ISO code. The same measurement can also be reported as NAS 1638 or AS4059 classes.

What do the four size channels mean?

Each channel is a cumulative particle-size threshold calibrated to ISO 11171 (the '(c)' suffix): >4 µm(c), >6 µm(c), >14 µm(c), and >30 µm(c). The >4/>6/>14 codes are the standard three-part ISO 4406 code shown on the front display; the fourth channel, >30 µm(c), is a coarse-particle code Parker adds for fuel/aviation cleanliness and carries on the serial and CAN outputs. Thiamis reads all four; mineral-oil units report only the three standard channels.

How does Thiamis connect to the icountPD?

Over the icountPD's RS-232 serial output, reporting in ISO 4406. The icountPD also provides 4–20 mA, 0–5 V, and CAN-bus (J1939) outputs, but the Thiamis integration uses the RS-232 connection.

Does the icountPD measure water or moisture content?

Non-fuel versions can be fitted with an optional moisture (%RH) and temperature sensor, but the Thiamis integration ingests only the ISO 4406 particle-cleanliness codes, not moisture or temperature.

Which fluids and operating conditions does it suit?

Mineral and hydraulic oils, phosphate-ester (fire-resistant) fluids, and aviation/petroleum fuels, at 2–420 bar and fluid viscosity of 1–500 cSt, with a measurement cycle of roughly 30 seconds.
