Questions

TSI SoundPro FAQ

What is the difference between the SoundPro SE and DL models?

SE models store summary/session data only; DL models add time-history data logging at selectable 1-second to 60-minute intervals to the SD card, capturing Lmax, Lmin, peak, Leq/Lavg (and Ln) over time. All SoundPro models store summary session data.

What do the Type 1 and Type 2 designations mean?

Type/Class 1 are precision instruments (IEC 61672-1 Class 1 / ANSI S1.4 Type 1, ±1 dB) supplied with the ½" BK4936 free-field microphone; Type/Class 2 are general-purpose (Class 2, ±2 dB) with the ½" QE7052 prepolarized microphone. Both measure the same quantities; Type 1 has tighter accuracy and is used for legal metrology and environmental work.

What do the 1/1 and 1/3 octave options add?

The base SLM (SP-SE/DL-1 or -2) measures broadband only. A "-1/1" model adds real-time 1/1 octave analysis (11 bands, 16 Hz–16 kHz); a "-1/3" model adds both 1/1 and 1/3 octave analysis (33 bands, 12.5 Hz–20 kHz), per IEC 61260 / ANSI S1.11. Octave bands are produced for SPL, Leq, Lmax, Lmin, Lpeak, and Lavg, not TWA.

Which noise metrics does the Thiamis integration record?

The driver polls the broadband SPL, Leq, Lavg, Lmin, Lmax, Lpeak, and TWA (plus their 1/1 or 1/3 octave bands on filter-equipped units). The meter itself also computes SEL, Ln percentiles, noise dose/projected dose, Takt-Maximal, LDN, CNEL, and PTWA, but the integration does not currently request those.

What are the "two virtual sound level meters"?

Each SoundPro runs two independent virtual meters at once from a single microphone, so it can capture, for example, A-weighted and C-weighted results (or two different response/threshold settings) concurrently.

How does the integration connect to the SoundPro?

Over the meter’s RS-232 serial port at 4800 baud, 8-N-1. The Thiamis driver issues ASCII commands (SPL, LEQ, LAVG, LMIN, LMAX, LPK, TWA, plus per-band filter queries in 1/1 or 1/3 octave mode) and parses the "…=value dB" responses.
