Airmar Weather Stations

Airmar WeatherStation instruments (compact, maintenance-free ultrasonic multisensors with no moving parts) measure apparent wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, and wind chill in one housing. An optional field-serviceable humidity module adds relative and absolute humidity, dew point, and heat index. GPS/compass models (from the 150WX up to the 2026 300WX flagship) add dynamic true wind, position, and compass and rate-gyro stabilization. The 150WXRS also adds acoustic rainfall.

120WXHHeated 120WX for ice-prone sites with a thermostatically controlled wind-channel heater: apparent wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, and wind chill; NMEA 0183 only (no NMEA 2000). IPX6. No longer manufactured.
150WXLand/mobile ultrasonic model adding 10 Hz GPS and a two-axis compass for theoretical (true) wind: apparent and true wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, wind chill, GPS position/SOG/COG, and pitch/roll; an optional RH module adds dew point and heat index. IPX6. No longer manufactured.
150WXRSLand-based stationary model that adds maintenance-free acoustic rain (accumulation, duration, intensity) to the 150WXS: apparent and dynamic true wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, 10 Hz GPS, a three-axis stabilized compass, rate gyro, pitch/roll, and standard RH with dew point and heat index. IPX4.
150WXSLand-based stationary ultrasonic model with a solar shield and standard RH: apparent and dynamic true wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, 10 Hz GPS, a two-axis compass, and pitch/roll, plus calculated dew point and heat index. IPX4.
200WXSensor-rich mobile WeatherStation: apparent and dynamic true wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, wind chill, 10 Hz GPS (position/SOG/COG), a three-axis stabilized compass, rate gyro (rate-of-turn), and pitch/roll; an optional field-serviceable RH module adds dew point and heat index. IPX6. Superseded by the 300WX in 2026.
200WX-IPX7Waterproof (IPX7) 200WX for buoys and unmanned surface vessels; the same suite without the RH option: apparent and dynamic true wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, wind chill, GPS, a three-axis stabilized compass, rate gyro, and pitch/roll. Superseded by the 300WX-IP67 in 2026.
220WXCommercial-fishing WeatherStation: apparent and theoretical (true) wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, wind chill, 10 Hz GPS, a three-axis stabilized compass, rate gyro, and pitch/roll; an optional RH module adds dew point and heat index. IPX6. No longer manufactured.
220WXHHeated commercial WeatherStation (12-24 VDC): apparent and dynamic true wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, 10 Hz GPS, a three-axis stabilized compass, rate gyro, and pitch/roll; no RH, NMEA 0183 only. IPX4.
300WXNew-for-2026 ultrasonic flagship replacing the 200WX: apparent and dynamic true wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, GNSS (position/COG/SOG), a three-axis stabilized compass, rate gyro, and pitch/roll; an optional field-serviceable RH module adds dew point and heat index. Bluetooth/CAST app, J1939, and ISOBUS output. IP64.
300WX-IP67New-for-2026 waterproof flagship replacing the 200WX-IPX7. It carries the same suite as the 300WX without RH (apparent and dynamic true wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, GNSS, a three-axis stabilized compass, rate gyro, and pitch/roll), plus Bluetooth/CAST app, J1939, and ISOBUS output. IP67, built for offshore, buoys, and USVs.

Questions

Airmar Weather Stations FAQ

What data does an Airmar WeatherStation output, and what is WIMDA?

Airmar WeatherStations stream NMEA 0183 sentences at 4800 baud (and NMEA 2000 over CAN). WIMDA is the 'meteorological composite' sentence: one message carrying barometric pressure, air temperature, relative and absolute humidity, and dew point. Wind speed and angle arrive in the WIMWV sentence, while calculated wind chill and heat index, and rainfall (accumulation, duration, and intensity), come as transducer (XDR) sentences.

What is the difference between apparent and dynamic true wind?

Apparent wind is what the sensor measures: the actual wind combined with the platform's own motion. Dynamic true wind is the real wind over ground, which the GPS/compass models (150WX and up, including the 300WX) derive by removing the platform's own speed and heading from the apparent wind. Wind-only models such as the 110WX report apparent wind only.

Does the Airmar have moving parts or need calibration?

No. Wind is measured ultrasonically by timing sound between transducers, so there are no cups or vanes to wear out or ice up. It is maintenance-free with no field calibration. The heated models (120WXH, 220WXH) add a thermostatic element that keeps the wind channel clear of snow and ice.

Which parameters need the optional humidity module?

Relative and absolute humidity, dew point, and heat index all come from the field-serviceable RH module; wind, barometric pressure, air temperature, and wind chill are always reported without it. RH is standard on the land models (110WXS, 150WXS, 150WXRS), optional on most others, and unavailable on the sealed models (200WX-IPX7, 220WXH, 300WX-IP67).
