Defiant Technologies FROG
Specialty Air Analyzers
Defiant Technologies FROG portable gas chromatograph (GC-PID). A MEMS micro-preconcentrator, temperature-ramped micro-GC column, and 10.6 eV PID separate and quantify BTEX and other speciated VOCs (chlorinated ethenes such as TCE, PCE, and vinyl chloride, halogenated compounds, and naphthalene) in air, water, and soil, down to sub-ppb in about 5-10 minutes. The FROG uses scrubbed ambient air as its carrier gas, so no bottled gas is needed.

|---|---|---|
| Current flagship handheld GC-PID (< 5 lb): MEMS micro-preconcentrator, 5.2 m temperature-ramped micro-GC column, and 10.6 eV PID; BTEX and other speciated VOCs from sub-ppb to high ppm in air, water, and soil in under 10 minutes. Scrubbed ambient air as carrier gas (no bottled gas), Li-ion battery (~9 h) with built-in charger, software flow control, RS-232, and removable micro-SD. | ||
| Earlier handheld GC-PID (4.8 lb): micro-preconcentrator, temperature-ramped micro-GC column, and 10.6 eV PID; BTEX plus TCE/PCE, vinyl chloride, and naphthalene to ppb in ~5 min across air, water, and soil. NiMH battery (~6 h), RS-232, and micro-SD. Same serial protocol and compound library as the FROG-5000. |

What the Defiant Technologies FROG Gets From Aethair
Connected through Thiamis, its readings arrive in the same Environet account as Aethair's own monitors.
Live data and alerts
Environet shows the instrument live and alerts the people you choose by email, SMS, and webhook, at the thresholds you set. Noesis sets up a dashboard, a report, or an alert from a plain-text request.
Compliance reports
Aethair Reports produces scheduled or on-demand reports from the instrument's readings, as a PDF or secure link. Templates cover Aethair Blue, WELL v2, cabin air (ISO 23875), and the CMS-2567 healthcare codebook (ASHRAE 170), or you can report against custom limits such as OSHA PELs, NAAQS, EPA guidance, or your own program limits.
Dashboards and the app
Environet dashboards and the Aethair App show the instrument's readings just like any Aethair device. The occupant-facing Aethair Dashboards status display is built around Aethair IAQ and Aethair PRO.

Questions
Defiant Technologies FROG FAQ
Which compounds does the FROG report through Thiamis?
The integration ingests 16 speciated VOCs, all in ppb: the BTEX aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, p/m-xylene, o-xylene); the chlorinated ethenes vinyl chloride, trans- and cis-1,2-dichloroethene, trichloroethene (TCE), and tetrachloroethene (PCE); naphthalene; and the brominated/chlorinated compounds 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB), 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP), chlorobenzene, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, and 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene. In the catalog these are the channels of the speciated-VOC (BTEX) parameter.
How does the FROG connect to Thiamis?
Over RS-232 (19200 8N1) as an ASCII stream. The driver issues WRITE/SETUP/START/STOP commands and reads back the chromatogram result lines, parsing each 'PF,<compound>,<value>ppb' line and posting the recognized compound. It first reads the run configuration, then waits for the GC column to cool below the reported temperature limit before triggering the next sample, so results arrive roughly one analysis cycle (~5-10 min) apart.
Does the FROG need a carrier-gas cylinder?
No. The micro-GC uses scrubbed ambient air as its carrier gas, so it never runs out of carrier in the field and needs no bottled helium or nitrogen. That is one reason it can run unattended on a Thiamis node.
What is the difference between the FROG-4000 and FROG-5000?
They share the same micro-preconcentrator / micro-GC / 10.6 eV PID architecture and the same serial protocol, so the Thiamis 'frog' driver and its compound library cover both. The FROG-5000 is the current flagship, with a longer 5.2 m column, a sub-ppb to high-ppm range, a ~9 h lithium-ion battery with built-in charger, software flow control, and a removable micro-SD card. The FROG-4000 is the earlier handheld with a NiMH battery (~6 h) and a ~5-minute BTEX/TCE/PCE analysis.
