TSI GM460

Gas Detectors

TSI Gas Monitor GM460 handheld sample-draw multi-gas monitor, TSI's rebadge of the RKI Instruments GX-6000, now discontinued by TSI (the GX-6000 remains current). Up to six gases at once: four fixed confined-space channels (combustible/CH4, O2, CO, H2S) plus two smart channels accepting a PID (VOC library >600), an IR sensor (CO2/CH4/hydrocarbons), or a super-toxic electrochemical sensor (NH3, Cl2, HCN, NO2, SO2); internal pump, IP-67, intrinsically safe.

Questions

TSI GM460 FAQ

Is the TSI GM460 still available?

No. TSI has discontinued the GM460; it is listed on TSI's discontinued-products page. The GM460 was TSI's rebadge of the RKI Instruments GX-6000, an identical handheld six-channel sample-draw gas monitor, which RKI still sells. The Thiamis integration supports both: the same driver auto-detects whether a GM460 or a GX-6000 is connected.

What gases does the GM460 measure?

Up to six at once. Four channels are fixed for confined-space entry: combustible gas/methane (catalytic, reported in %LEL), oxygen (%vol), carbon monoxide (ppm), and hydrogen sulfide (ppm). The remaining two are interchangeable smart channels, each accepting a PID (VOC), an infrared sensor (CO2, methane, or hydrocarbons), or a super-toxic electrochemical sensor (NH3, Cl2, HCN, NO2, SO2).

How are the two smart channels represented in the data?

As two generic analog channels (Ch1 and Ch2). The value on each smart channel depends on whichever sensor cartridge is fitted, and the instrument reports it as a plain reading rather than a gas-labelled value, so the integration ingests it generically. The four fixed gases (combustible/CH4, O2, CO, H2S) are always reported by name.

What is the PID / VOC capability?

With a PID fitted on a smart channel, the GM460 carries a library of over 600 VOCs, plus a favorites list and a recent-gas list. Lamp options are 10.6 eV (broad-range VOC), 10.0 eV (benzene-specific, using a pre-filter tube for low-level benzene), and 11.7 eV. Like the GX-6000, it can carry two PID sensors at once.

Can it be combined with a DustTrak?

Yes. TSI designed the GM460 to mount inside the DustTrak Environmental Monitor enclosure, so a single outdoor station can report both particulate mass (PM2.5/PM10) from the DustTrak and gas from the GM460.

How does the Thiamis integration talk to the instrument?

Over an RS-232 serial link (921600 baud, 8 data bits, odd parity). Each interval the driver sends a poll command and parses the reply, auto-detecting the GM460 vs GX-6000 model string. Battery voltage is present in the protocol but is not surfaced as a measured parameter.
